P.A.R.K.L.I.F.E

"ALL THE PEOPLE, SO MANY PEOPLE"

Yes, that is a reference to 'Blur's' song 'Parklife' and all weekend I found my friends and I were randomly blurting out the lyrics unbeknown even to ourselves that we were doing it (the more we tried to stop ourselves, the more it just happened!)

There is a reason for this...this weekend I attended Parklife, in Heaton Park, Manchester. However, I only went on the Sunday and would have loved to have gone for the whole weekend (Snoop Dog was there on the Saturday...I mean come on?!) but unfortunately when I booked the tickets, Saturday was all sold out.

Festivals have always been one of my favourite events. A time when wellies become an object of fashion and the amount of mud on you shows how much fun you've had. Being a girl from the country...I like this ;)

For years they have marked the start of summer for me, whilst revising for various exams and truly believing the end would never come, I would stare at the lineup begging for it to just hurry up. For me, that festival was called Wakestock. A small festival held in Abersoch. Everyone from my area seemed to go to Wakestock and so seeing a familiar face wasn't that difficult. However, Parklife was a little different.

I think every University student in the UK was there. Okay, maybe a slight over-exageration, but I can honestly say there were quite a few people there letting off a little post-exam stress. Myself being one of them.

Having not seen my friends from home in a while, it was the perfect start to my summer. It really is true that true friendship isn't being separated, it's about being separated and yet nothing changes...i.e we're still as weird as always.

Parklife 2014

We arrived late in true 'us' fashion and because of the lack of signal sadly couldn't find our friend Eve and her boyfriend, who's flat we were staying in... (that made for an eventful journey home). Sadly we didn't get to see Sam Smith...but...WE DID GET TO SEE DISCLOSURE.

Now I didn't expect them to be as good as they were BUT THEY WERE INCREDIBLE. We snaked our way through the crows and ended up very close to the front. The atmosphere was on fire...literally, they had fire special effects ;) There wasn't one song that disappointed. The beat made it impossible not to dance, the whole crowd was singing and there was just an overall feeling in the air of being young and careless, probably a time we'll all look back on with nostalgia when we're older.
The whole set was an hour and a half...it honestly felt like 20 minutes...time really does fly when you're having fun.

Thankfully, the weather was nice to us. There was only a few times my trusty bright blue raincoat came in handy...one of them being as a sign for my friends so they could find us when we separated ;)

The whole weekend has got me too excited for Ibiza now, which I'm going to with three of the girls who I went to Parklife with...

Summer really has started!
